In this article we list the main factors that affect <a href=\"https:\/\/fljpcb.com\/nl\/pcb-assembly\/smt-assembly\/\">SMT <\/a>soldering quality. We also give simple, practical fixes we use in production. Sentences are short and clear. Moisture is a big risk. We store moisture-sensitive parts in dry boxes. If one side has much more copper, use a thin trace to connect large copper areas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pad spacing.<\/strong> Too small or too large spacing causes poor fillet or bridging.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pad size.<\/strong> Ensure enough pad area for a proper solder fillet.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pad width.<\/strong> Match pad width to component terminal width.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>No through-holes on pads.<\/strong> Through holes in pads pull solder away during reflow. Keep factory at ~25\u00b0C and 50% humidity if possible. Let paste rest and stir before use. After printing, reflow within 2 hours or follow paste rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fixes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Follow paste storage and handling rules.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep workshop temp and humidity stable.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mix paste well before printing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-stencil-design-and-manufacturing\">Stencil design and manufacturing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Stencil deposits paste on pads. Bad stencils cause bad prints. Stencils are made by chemical etch, laser, or electroform.
